PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan dropped by the Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center Friday night for a discussion with former Philadelphia Inquirer movie critic Carrie Rickey.
First the crowd of about 200 people was treated to a highlight reel of Shyamalan’s films.
Then he sat down for a chat with Rickey before the audience got their chance to fire a few questions his way.
Anthony Greco just graduated film school and he wanted to know how M. Night developed that unmistakable style.
“I like that he has the suspense,” Greco said. “Signs, you barely saw anything with those aliens. But when I saw that, I couldn’t sleep when it came out. It was ridiculous.”
Shyamalan shared stories of his past and the audience really got a kick out of his struggles as a budding filmmaker trying to break into Hollywood.
